Crawick Multiverse

Crawick Multiverse is a 55-acre land art project located on the site of a former open cast coal mine near Sanquhar. Designed by landscape architect Charles Jencks, this unique destination opened in 2015 and stands as the artist’s largest work in Britain.
The site is significant for representing modern cosmology through nine distinct landforms. Built in the style of megalithic monuments, the project utilizes over 2,000 boulders to explore the theory that our universe is one of many. Jencks himself described this striking environment as a cosmic landscape worthy of the ancients.
Visitors can explore a 400-meter stone avenue known as the North-South Line, which is flanked by more than 300 boulders. You can also discover two stone circles situated on top of mounds, designed to represent the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies.
