Broughty Ferry Local Nature Reserve
14 minute walk from Balmossie station · Dundee, Aberdeen and North East · Free entry

Broughty Ferry Local Nature Reserve is a unique natural site situated on the north side of the Broughty Ferry Esplanade. This protected area is a notable example of a raised beach, formed as ice melted and land rose at the end of the ice age.
The reserve is geologically and historically significant, featuring sand dunes resting upon ancient Andesitic Lava. Visitors can still find lumps of this volcanic rock today. The site also includes an old railway track-bed that has transitioned into a peaceful retreat for local wildlife.
Nature lovers can explore a landscape rich with wildflowers like bluebells and meadow saxifrage, which are at their best in May and June. While visiting, you may spot bank voles and roe deer, or hear the calls of tawny owls and various songbirds hiding among the undergrowth.
