Broughty Ferry is a scenic suburb of Dundee situated on the north bank of the Firth of Tay. Once a prosperous fishing and whaling village, it developed into a fashionable destination known in the 19th century as the "richest square mile in Europe" due to the villas built by wealthy jute barons.
The area is home to the historic Broughty Castle, a defensive structure built in 1495 that projects into the Tay.
