Wallace Tower

The Wallace Tower is a striking Neo-Gothic monument located on Ayr’s High Street. Standing 113 feet tall, this landmark was built in 1882 to replace a previous tower owned by the Wallace family of Craigie.
It is a site of deep local significance, said to stand where William Wallace once captured 500 English soldiers. Though named for the Craigie family, the tower features a prominent statue of the Scottish freedom fighter, which was chosen by a vote of the townspeople to fill the monument's niche.
Visitors can admire the impressive architecture and the historic statue while exploring the town centre. It serves as a reminder of Ayr’s heritage, linking Victorian design with centuries of legendary history.
