Auld Kirk of Ayr

The Auld Kirk of Ayr is a 17th-century Category A listed church built upon the site of a 15th-century Franciscan monastery. Completed in 1654 to replace a demolished medieval church, this historic building is famous as the site where Robert Burns was baptised in 1759.
Visitors can explore a unique interior featuring an unusual double-tier paneled pulpit and leaded stained glass windows. Notable features include three wooden galleries for trades, merchants, and sailors, where a model ship hangs from the ceiling. Outside, you can enter through a 1656 lychgate to view the historic burial ground.
