Tolbooth Museum
21 minute walk from Stonehaven station · Dundee, Aberdeen and North East · Free entry

The Stonehaven Tolbooth is a Category A listed 16th-century stone building located at the town's harbour. Originally used as a storehouse, courthouse, and prison, this historic Old Red Sandstone structure now serves as a local museum and restaurant.
It is famous for its mid-18th-century history, when three Episcopalian clergymen were imprisoned here for holding large religious services. The site has hosted local government business for centuries and was officially reopened as a museum by the Queen Mother in 1963.
Visitors can explore the ground-floor museum to view local history displays, including a wooden model of the town's war memorial. Inside, you can see original architectural features like arrow slits, flagstones, cobblestones, and a sizable historic firepit.
