Thomas Coats Memorial Church

The Thomas Coats Memorial Church is a category A listed building located at the west end of the High Street in Paisley. This red sandstone Gothic Revival structure is colloquially known as the Baptist Cathedral of Europe. It was completed in 1894 as a tribute to philanthropist Thomas Coats and has served as a dominant feature of the skyline for over 100 years.

Visitors can admire the striking 60-metre crown steeple, flying buttresses, and intricate gargoyles. Inside, the venue features a vaulted ceiling decorated with paintings of angels, mosaics, and carved marble. The interior also houses a rare William Hill & Sons organ with 3,040 pipes. Today, guests can experience the grand space during weddings, graduations, and arts events, or explore the grounds used as a filming location for the drama Outlander.

Our Paisley organises tours of the church.
