RRS Discovery
2 minute walk from Dundee station · Dundee, Aberdeen and North East

RRS Discovery is a historic, barque-rigged auxiliary steamship built in Dundee. Launched in 1901 for Antarctic research, she was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship built in the United Kingdom.
This remarkable vessel served as the base for legendary explorers Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton during the Discovery Expedition. Widely considered the strongest wooden ship ever built, her massively reinforced hull was designed to withstand being frozen into pack ice.
Today, the ship is a restored visitor attraction in Dundee. Visitors can explore the "Heroic Age" masterpiece, seeing its unique wooden construction, the hinged funnel, and the specialised laboratory used for magnetic field measurements.
