Moray Playhouse
11 minute walk from Elgin station · Dundee, Aberdeen and North East
The Playhouse is a cinema facility commissioned by the company Elgin Picture House Ltd. in early 1932. The architect AG Macdonald produced the design for the building, which was erected upon garden ground situated behind the former City Inn. The internal auditorium was finished with a focus on luxury to provide a higher standard than other local venues operating at that time.
The external structure features a low-profile frontage that is integrated into a pre-existing building. The entrance is contained within a two-storey block that is finished with a tiled roof. A canopy with neon lighting originally projected from the facade to mark the entry point. The premises are currently managed by the operator Caledonian Cinemas.
