Barry Mill
23 minute walk from Barry Links station · Dundee, Aberdeen and North East

Located in a secluded area near Carnoustie, Barry Mill is a working Category A listed watermill managed by the National Trust for Scotland. This three-story educational attraction sits beside the Barry Burn, a site that has been home to various mills since at least 1539.
Rebuilt in 1814 after a fire, the mill is a significant piece of Scottish history that remained commercially operational until 1984. It is powered by a massive 15-foot-6-inch overshot waterwheel, which is fueled by water channeled through a working dam and lade.
Visitors can explore the mill's traditional milling floors and see a historical threshing machine on display. You can enjoy demonstrations where oats are processed into oatmeal using cogs, hoists, and two pairs of millstones. The site also features a visitor centre in the former stables and displays detailing the life and work of historic millers.
