Tivoli Theatre

The Tivoli Theatre is a historic performance venue, originally opened in 1872 as Her Majesty’s Theatre. It was designed by architects James Matthews and Charles J. Phipps. Following restorations and a period as a bingo hall, the building was saved from the Buildings at Risk Register and reopened as a mid-scale venue.
This architectural gem is significant for its interior work by renowned theatre architect Frank Matcham, who reconstructed the auditorium in 1897 and 1909. After a modern restoration project that returned the frontage to its former integrity, all three levels of the theatre are now open to the public.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of live entertainment within the 450-seat auditorium, ranging from original plays to traditional pantomimes. The venue also features ancillary facilities including a cafe and a gallery, offering a complete cultural experience in a beautifully restored setting.
