St Michael's Church

St Michael’s Parish Church in Linlithgow is a grand and historic Gothic-style building situated beside Linlithgow Palace. Much of the structure dates from the 15th century after a fire destroyed the earlier church, though its origins stretch back to the 12th century. It's famous as the place where Mary, Queen of Scots, was baptised. The church’s most striking feature today is its aluminium “crown of thorns” spire, added in 1964 to replace the original stone crown. Inside, visitors encounter soaring arches, impressive stained-glass windows, and reminders of its royal and ecclesiastical heritage.
