Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre
3 minute walk from Argyle Street station · Glasgow and West Central
The Sharmanka Kinetic Gallery is a theatre of kinetic sculpture founded in 1989 in Saint Petersburg and based in Glasgow since 1996. The gallery is a collaboration between sculptor Eduard Bersudsky, director Tatyana Jakovskaya, and designer Sergey Jakovsky.
This unique museum is significant for its mechanical figures and has been exhibited in prestigious galleries worldwide, from London to Tel Aviv. Visitors can enjoy theatrical shows where these intricate sculptures perform. The experience centres on a blend of light, sound, and movement, all inspired by the Russian word "sharmanka," meaning hurdy-gurdy or barrel-organ.
