Gallery of Modern Art

The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is Glasgow’s premier contemporary art venue. Opened in 1996, it is housed within a stunning neoclassical building in Royal Exchange Square. Originally built in 1778 as a private townhouse, the structure has served as a bank and a library before being refurbished to showcase the city's contemporary art collection.

The gallery is historically significant for its architecture, featuring a magnificent hall with Corinthian columns and a richly ornamented arched ceiling. Visitors can admire the exterior mirrored pediment by Niki de Saint Phalle and the iconic equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington, which stands in front of the building often adorned with a traffic cone.

Inside, you can explore a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions and workshops featuring local and international artists like David Hockney and Andy Warhol. The gallery also addresses social issues through major projects. Beyond the art, the facility offers a café, a learning library, and dedicated studios for artist talks, providing an engaging experience for all.
