Ravenscraig Castle
31 minute walk from Kirkcaldy station · Stirling, Central and Fife · Free entry

Ravenscraig Castle is a ruined mid‑15th‑century artillery fortress perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Firth of Forth. Commissioned in 1460 by James II for Queen Mary of Gueldres, construction continued under the Sinclair family who reinforced the walls - up to 3.5 m thick - to resist cannon fire. The castle consists of two large D-shaped towers linked by a central range fronted by a deep, rock-cut ditch. Though only exterior access is allowed and interior floors are mostly lost, its imposing silhouette and defensive architecture remain impressive. Free to visit year‑round.
