Montrose Museum

Opened in 1842, Montrose Museum is a historic institution housed in a striking pink sandstone building. Known as one of the first purpose-built museums in Scotland, this neo-classical landmark features a spacious atrium and serves as a hub for local history and fine art.

Visitors can explore a vast collection of curiosities, including Neolithic finds, Ancient Egyptian relics, and Pictish stones. Displays delve into the life of the Marquess of Montrose and the region's military past. An adjoining gallery showcases work by local artists, while the mezzanine features maritime history, model boats, and wildlife taxidermy.

Experience everything from semi-precious agates in a specialized geology room to maritime relics illuminating the whaling industry. The museum also hosts regular children's activities and community events, offering a welcoming atmosphere for all to discover the heritage of Angus.
