Greenbank Gardens
25 minute walk from Whitecraigs station · Glasgow and West Central
Greenbank Garden is a 2.5-acre, 18th-century walled garden and 16-acre estate in Clarkston. Managed by the National Trust for Scotland, this site features a Category A listed Georgian house built in 1763 for merchant Robert Allason.
The grounds are significant as an educational space designed to inspire visitors. Its distinctive layout uses hedging and tall plants to divide the landscape into twelve characteristic areas. In addition to the ornamental gardens, the estate includes tranquil woodland areas and a herd of Highland cattle.
Visitors can enjoy over 3,700 plants, ranging from spring bulbs and roses to rhododendrons and apple blossoms. You can explore the sixteen-room house during select months or visit the tea-room, which provides a plant encyclopedia to help identify unusual specimens found throughout the gardens.
