Dunollie Castle, Museum and Grounds

Dunollie Castle is a historic ruined fortification situated on a high promontory north of Oban. Open to the public as part of the Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds, the site serves as an ancestral seat cared for by a preservation trust.

The site is steeped in history, serving as a royal centre in the early Middle Ages before the existing ruins were built in the 15th century. Once the seat of the MacDougalls, Lords of Lorne, the grounds now feature recently discovered remains of a historical herb garden.

Visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins while enjoying views over the town, harbour, and outlying isles, including the island of Kerrera. The attraction offers a chance to experience Scottish history through its museum and conserved grounds.
