Wolfburn Distillery

Wolfburn is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Thurso, Caithness. It holds the distinction of being the most northerly whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland. While the original site was founded in 1821, a new distillery of the same name opened in 2013 just 350 meters from the old ruins.

This historic site was once the largest distillery in Caithness, and its modern revival continues that legacy of excellence. Today, the distillery produces award-winning spirits that have been described as masterpieces. The whisky is crafted using water drawn from the nearby Wolf Burn stream, which gives the distillery its name.

Visitors can explore a reinvented site consisting of four buildings, including the distillery and warehouses for laying down casks. You can see the purpose-built on-site bottling facility where the spirit is prepared for global launch. The experience offers a chance to appreciate a range of gold-medal whiskies, including specialised age-statement releases.
