The Burrell Collection

The Burrell Collection is a renowned museum housed in a prize-winning building within the 360-acre Pollok parkland. It contains the eclectic art collection of shipping magnate Sir William Burrell and his wife, Constance. The museum opened in 1983 and recently reopened in 2022 following a major refurbishment.

This "national treasure" is significant for its diverse history, spanning six millennia of creativity. The collection was gifted to the city in 1944 and features over 9,000 objects, including one of the UK’s most significant holdings of Chinese art. Its architectural importance is equally notable, having been named Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2023.

Visitors can explore galleries filled with medieval stained glass, tapestries, and Islamic carpets, alongside Impressionist masterpieces by Degas and Cézanne. The building itself integrates art into its structure, featuring Romanesque doorways and 16th-century arches. You can also enjoy reconstructions of three wood-panelled rooms from the Burrells’ home or admire views of the surrounding woodland from the restaurant.
