Strathspey Steam Railway

The Strathspey Railway is a heritage line running ten miles through Badenoch and Strathspey. It preserves a rare section of a former primary main line that originally linked Aviemore with Forres, maintaining a historical connection between the local communities of Boat of Garten and Broomhill.

The site is rich in history, featuring an original 1898 locomotive shed and a WWII-era engine crew hostel known as Spey Lodge. Visitors can explore the Boat of Garten station, a listed building from 1904 that retains its traditional booking hall and a waiting room with an open fire. The railway uses authentic mechanical semaphore signalling to manage movement across the scenic landscape.

While travelling through Granish Moor and local forests, guests can enjoy views of Cairngorm Mountain and the River Spey. The journey includes a stop at Broomhill, a replica station famous as the filming location for "Glenbogle" in the BBC series "Monarch of the Glen." On-site amenities include a souvenir shop and a coffee shop housed in an old gas house.
