South Annsmuir, Heggie’s Muir Wood & Gravelpit Wood

Starting from Ladybank station, this gentle circular walk of about 5.2 km (3¼ miles) leads through three connected woodlands: South Annsmuir, Heggie’s Muir, and Gravelpit Wood. After crossing the railway near pony paddocks, you enter the 1940s Scots pine plantation of South Annsmuir, home to red squirrels and woodpeckers, and marked by a commemorative stone for a wartime POW camp. The route continues past a reclaimed gravel pond and wartime pillbox in Heggie’s Muir, before returning along Pitlessie Road into Ladybank. Low-level paths and minor roads make it a relaxed, scenic stroll with a touch of history.
