Royal Lyceum Theatre

Built in 1883 by architect C. J. Phipps, the Royal Lyceum Theatre is a historic Edinburgh landmark named after the London residence of actor Henry Irving. Today, it serves as the home of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company and stands as a principal venue for the Edinburgh International Festival.
The building is one of the architect's most original works, remaining largely unaltered since the 19th century. It holds a significant place in history as the first theatre in Britain to feature an iron safety curtain and the first in Scotland to use electricity for house lighting.
