Robert Burns Mausoleum

The Robert Burns Mausoleum is a prominent historic monument and statue located at the eastern end of St Michael’s Churchyard in Dumfries. This white structure features a distinctive green copper dome that stands out among the many sandstone memorials in the area.
It is a significant site of heritage, built using donations from friends and admirers of the Bard’s work. While Burns was originally buried in a simple grave in 1796, he was reburied in 1815 within this grand mausoleum to ensure visitors could easily find his final resting place.
Visitors can view the exterior at any time and learn from an onsite information panel. The interior is open for scheduled visits from Monday to Saturday between April and September. Access at other times can be arranged through Dumfries Museum or Burns House.
