Old Blacksmith's Shop

The Famous Blacksmiths Shop and Museum in Gretna Green is a historic marriage house and the UK’s first immersive attraction dedicated to love. This legendary destination, known as the original home of romance, offers visitors a journey through centuries of traditions, from handfasting to the legal changes that made this site the world’s most famous place to say "I do."

The site is famous for its iconic Blacksmith’s Anvil, where runaway couples from England crossed the border to marry. Visitors can explore a collection of historic marriage records, original love letters, and iconic artefacts. The experience is brought to life through interactive exhibits, immersive audio, and the captivating stories of the remarkable Blacksmith Priests and Priestesses.

During your visit, you can stand beside an original stagecoach and experience the thrill of the chase felt by historic eloping couples. The museum shop offers a chance to take home exclusive gifts, including Harris Tweed, Scottish souvenirs, and signature Gretna Green whisky. The facility is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with the last museum admission 30 minutes before closing.
