Martyrs Tomb

The Martyr's Tomb in Barrhill is a Category B listed monument of special architectural and historic interest. Situated beside the Cross Water, this site features a pedimented monument topped by a ball finial, set within a stone-walled enclosure.
The site is a significant memorial, erected anew in 1825 to honor the memory of John Murchie and Daniel Meiklewrick. It offers a glimpse into local history, as fragments of an older monument with an earlier inscription still lie at the side of the current structure.
Visitors can view the historic inscription and appreciate the traditional masonry of the enclosure. The tranquil setting by the water provides a reflective atmosphere to explore these physical remnants of the past and the layers of history preserved in the stone.
