Kilmahew Castle
30 minute walk from Cardross station · Highlands and Argyll

Kilmahew Castle is a ruined 16th-century tower house located just north of Cardross in Argyll and Bute. Originally built for the Napier family, this historic structure stands near the ruins of St. Peter's Seminary and the peaceful Kilmahew Burn.
The site is significant for its long association with the Napiers, who held the lands for eighteen generations and produced pioneers of Clyde shipbuilding. While it began as a four-storey home, the castle features later 18th-century modifications and notable Gothic additions from the 19th century.
Visitors can explore a site rich in Scottish heritage, once owned by figures like James Burns and the Archdiocese of Glasgow. Today, the ruins are part of a 140-acre estate that includes historic walled gardens, offering a unique look at centuries of changing architectural styles.
