Dunrobin Castle is a magnificent stately home located in Sutherland, overlooking the Dornoch Firth. As the family seat of the Earl of Sutherland, this landmark is the largest house in the North of Scotland. Its grand architecture blends a medieval core with 19th-century Scottish Baronial extensions designed by Sir Charles Barry.
The castle is rich in history, featuring an interior courtyard with 14th-century origins and stone-vaulted ceilings. Visitors can explore 189 rooms, including a library housing 10,000 books and a dining room adorned with Italian Grisaille friezes. The grounds feature formal French-style gardens inspired by Versailles, designed with clever optical illusions.
While visiting, you can enjoy falconry displays held by a resident falconer or explore the on-site museum housed in an 18th-century summer-house. The museum contains a unique collection of archaeological artefacts and ethnographic items. From the drawing room, guests can also admire views of the sea and expansive landscaped parterres.
