Devorgilla Bridge

Devorgilla's Bridge is a historic landmark in Dumfries and stands as one of the oldest bridges still in use in Scotland. Originally ordered as a wooden structure around 1270, it was later replaced by a strong stone bridge. Today, it is an iconic red sandstone structure.
The bridge is significant for its connection to Lady Devorgilla, one of the most powerful women in 13th-century Scotland. It was built to provide access to the Franciscan monastery she founded and Sweetheart Abbey, a memorial to her husband. Notable features include a remaining 17th-century gothic arch and eight semicircular arches.
