Dalwhinnie Distillery is a highland Scotch whisky producer. Set against stunning mountain scenery, it holds the distinction of being the highest distillery in Scotland at 1,070 feet above sea level. While its single malt whiskies are legally defined within the Speyside region, they are also labelled as Highland malts.
The site is historically significant, as the name Dalwhinnie refers to an ancient "meeting place" for mountain cattle drovers. Established in the late 19th century, the distillery was specifically situated to access clear spring water from Lochan-Doire-Uaine and peat from the surrounding bogs. Today, it is recognized as one of the Six Classic Malts of Scotland.
Visitors to this historic site can explore a dedicated visitor centre that first opened in 1991. You can see the traditional worm tubs, which were reinstated during a refit to maintain the distillery’s authentic production methods. The experience offers a unique look at a facility that has survived fires and harsh winters to produce its famous single malt expressions.
